About Us
Since San Juan Island is separated from the mainland a ferry ride of more than one hour each way, plus the difficulty of then reaching a cancer treatment center and the time of treatment, transportation for patients with cancer living on our island is a serious obstacle for care. Through the leadership of a local pilot, Vicky Thalacker and the local Soroptomist chapter, the San Juan Eagles were organized in 2002 to fly cancer patients to mainland cancer treatment centers on a voluntary basis. Other local pilots from the San Juan Pilots Association joined the effort, with as many as 20 pilots participating at one time or another since then.
